Cyclone Dana live updates – Odisha deploys 288 rescue teams, begins Evacuation Campaign 

Both the states, Odisha and West Bengal are in preparation for Cyclone Dana, currently, education institutions have been closed and people in vulnerable areas have been shifted to safer places. The Indian Coast Guard has stepped up its alertness whereby deploying vessels and aircraft in anticipation of fast responding to cases as both states face heavy rains.

The Indian Mereological Department (IMD) director general Mrutunjay Mohapatra has said that the cyclone might affect the eastern coast, starting from Puri to West Bengal.

It is expected Cyclone Dana is to make landfall between Puri and Sagar Island on October 25 at around 1 Am with wind speed varying from hundred to hundred and ten kmph and gusts up to 120 kmph.

Cyclone shelters have been made ready by the Odisha government in its worst affected places which include 800 permanent shelters and 500 more in schools and colleges.

Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari said that around 250 centers have been verified and food, drinking water, medicines, and electricity have also been arranged. Students of schools, colleges, and universities in 14 districts will be out of classes from October 23 to 25.

Similarly in West Bengal, education minister Partha Chatterjee declared that some of the schools will be closed in seven districts from October 23 to 26.

People living in the low-lying areas close to the sea have been asked to move to other areas. After having a look at the operational procedures of the Indian Coast Guard, they have also installed helicopters as well as remote control stations for transmitting weather reports and safety messages to fishermen and other persons on the sea.

The populace near the coast requires evacuation and Coast Guard personnel are working closely with other local law enforcement bodies to ensure order during the cyclone.
